The Power of Sowing Seed
By: J Dianne Tribble

Let’s begin by simply defining what it means to sow seed. Sowing seed is the process of investing your time, talents, and resources into the lives of others or the cause supported by others. Examples of this would include giving monetary and non-monetary offerings and love gifts to your church or other non-profit organizations; volunteering your time to organizations; providing pro bono services; participating in fund raisers for various causes; and  referring others to resources available to help meet a need in a person’s life or within a company.

To obtain the aspirations, goals, and desires of our hearts, sowing is a major key. When you sow into the lives of others, it opens a pathway for your desire to make its way to you. Think about the familiar saying, “What goes around comes around.” In other words, if you'll be nice to others, others will be nice to you. This is a prime example of sowing seed and getting a return on the seed sown. The opposite works the same way. If you are dishonest with others, others will be dishonest with you.

Sowing seed is not some new fly-by-night gimmick. It’s scriptural. Galatians 6:7 teaches us, Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.” Sowing good seed (good deeds) will cause good to make its way back to us just as sowing bad seed will cause adverse results to come our way. Therefore, be careful of burning bridges!

Are you in need of something at this time? Do you have a desire for something in particular? Are you looking to increase your business clientele? Do you desire stronger family ties? Put the power of sowing seed to work in that given area. Volunteer at your church or for a non-profit organization; support and patronize others’ business ventures; give referrals; invest time in your family. The list could go on and on but I believe you’ve gotten the message.

Your seed functions as a deposit on the full investment of what is to come in your life. Picture a tiny tomato seed and then picture a nice, big red tomato. Would you like to expand the visual? Think about investing a day volunteering your time in a Habitat for Humanity project. Now picture your new home. You got it. I know you do.

When we exercise the power of sowing seed, we help others. In helping others, we help ourselves and cause the alignment of what we sow to make its way back to us. Put the power of seed time to work in your life and watch harvest make its way to you.
